Tikkurila\u2019s high-quality processes ensure high-quality products \u2013 efficient processes as a goal<\/h2>\n

The development of high-quality paints involves numerous steps, and the journey from product idea to market can take several years. The manufacturing process of paint requires taking various regulations and sustainability into consideration, and testing products in different conditions. To streamline its operations, Tikkurila has transitioned from country-specific operating models to centrally managed processes. To ensure that the product development processes operate efficiently within the centralized operating model, Tikkurila wanted to analyze and streamline its operations with the help of Flovio\u2019s process development expertise. <\/p>\n

Current state analysis describes the process flow and bottlenecks<\/h2>\n

Launching new products involves the collaboration of numerous cross-functional processes. Changes in various stages of product development and production also impact marketing and sales activities, such as the execution of marketing material and specific launch actions at retail locations. A successful launch requires seamless collaboration across various functions. Flovio started by mapping out actors and stakeholders involved in Tikkurila\u2019s product development. In the initial assessment, dependencies between different stages of the project were assessed, problem areas were recognized, and we obtained an overview of the progression of the product launch process, including decision points. Communication channels were also illustrated, as well as possible bottlenecks between different stakeholders. The process mapping was executed through workshops and interviews. In a global operating environment, the availability of raw materials, smoothness of freight transport, changes in legislation and the development of consumer needs are carefully mapped before starting the product development process. Therefore, the impact of individual unexpected deviations on the whole process must be considered. <\/p>\n

Development measures based on the current state<\/h2>\n

Flovio\u2019s current state analysis outlined the critical points of the product development process, in which the communication and decision-making between the different functions needed to be clarified. After this, the target state was defined, and a project roadmap was created. The process design was carried out in workshops that involved employees from all areas of Tikkurila\u2019s product development process. The workshop session ensured that all key stakeholders and actors were considered at every stage of the process. With the help of Flovio\u2019s process tool (Cleverom<\/a>) Tikkurila received clear visualization of the product development process flow, interfaces and information needs. Critical deviations were defined, and between operational management and business leadership clear decision-making models were established for their escalation. As a result of the project, Flovio helped optimize the product launch process. The clear visualization of the product launch process now supports the planning, control and monitoring of work. <\/p>\n

Committed leadership supports process development<\/h2>\n

Tikkurila\u2019s leadership is strongly committed to developing the organization\u2019s processes. Clear roles, responsibilities and transparently illustrated processes facilitate cross-functional collaboration and support the achievement of business objectives. Specified decision points between business and operational product development enhance decision-making and leadership. Optimizing the product launch process improves the organization\u2019s ability to adapt and respond to both long-term and short-term changes occurring in the operating environment. The management of Tikkurila was also strongly involved in the work of the project\u2019s steering committee. Observations and interim results were communicated widely to the staff throughout the entire project. It was made visible, how process development makes operations more efficient, also from the perspective of individual employees: predictability of work improves, and workload spikes are reduced when processes are clearly phased. <\/p>\n

The model of continuous improvement implements results<\/h2>\n

Through a process development process, Tikkurila wanted to strengthen its culture of continuous improvement. The insights gained during the improvement of the product development process, and the Cleverom process tool<\/a> enabled scaling and implementing process expertise to the company\u2019s other operations. The product launch process chosen for the project implemented with Flovio is a large-scale project that has a significant impact on Tikkurila. High-quality product launch process ensures that Tikkurila\u2019s customers always receive high quality products. <\/p>\n
